IRIS’ Latin America/Caribbean programme studies the geopolitics of a subcontinent at the heart of many global challenges of the 21st century: climate, energy, biodiversity, agriculture, democracy, inequalities, sustainable development, gender, US/China relations, North/South relations, etc.
Analyses, decoding, debates, perspectives. This programme is aimed at professionals (companies, decision-makers, journalists, etc.) and experts (researchers, academics, institutions) mobilised on or by Latin America.
IRIS’ Latin America/Caribbean programme aims to combine different levels of analytical productions for a diverse audience of professionals (companies, decision-makers, journalists, etc.), students and experts of the area (researchers, academics, institutions). It offers analysesanddecoding of the current Latin American geopolitical events and the relations between this region and the rest of the world (including the European Union), as well as the publication of thorough thematic studies on all these subjects useful to all these audiences. Finally, this programme contributes to the debate by organising events on all the selected topics of interest (seminars, colloquia, etc.).
Specific areas of expertise
IRIS’ Latin America/Caribbean programme covers the entire sub-continent made of over 40 countries of different geopolitical and geo-economic sizes and weights.
Its objectives include a transversal treatment of the area in terms of countries (a dozen countries are regularly monitored) and issues (regional integration, drug trafficking, migration, integration into major international geoeconomic and trade dynamics, etc.).
It constantly monitors the political and social actors who shape the region’s geopolitical developments in its immediate and wider environment.
A recognised expertise
With its team of complementary skills and profiles (researchers, academics, civil society stakeholders, who regularly carry out field missions, journalists, former institutional actors) and its recognised expertise on issues related to the Latin American and Caribbean region, IRIS’ Latin America/Caribbean programme carries out studies, reports and consultancy notes for public and private partners. It also provides sustained expertise for media actors (print, radio and television).
For companies, it offers decryptions and analytical frameworks suited to their needs and strategies in short, medium and long term, to promote their successful implementation in a complex and changing environment.
Some of this programme’s initiatives are the result of partnerships developed with the French development Agency (AFD), the Directorate General for International Relations and Strategy (DGRIS) of the Ministry of Defence, the Centre for Analysis, Planning and Strategy (CAPS) of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, and the Thalès company.
Expertise, network
The Latin America and Caribbean programme aims at stimulating the strategic debate on the topics that interact with the business world. It regularly organises conferences, symposia and private seminars on these topics at the Institute. IRIS makes its knowledge, expertise and research network available through a wide range of events organised for public and private clients.
Private events are designed to foster the exchange of views and facilitate discussion among high‑level decision-makers in an intimate and informal setting. Public events are an opportunity to promote and discuss strategic research focuses for clients.
Knowledge
IRIS’ research and training teams are involved in the scientific aspect of these events. With more than 50 events organised each year, the Institute also has a dedicated event management team to deal with logistics and practical matters. Its experience and wide network are a token of the success of our events.
The Institute’s conference centre is located in the heart of Paris. The centre has a fully equipped auditorium as well as an adjacent room that is ideal for smaller gatherings.
Drawing from its experience in analysis and advice, and thanks to its diversified network of the sector’s experts and professionals, IRIS offers tailor-made training.
These training programmes are developed in partnership with human resources directors, international directors and strategy directors. They are intended to provide operational responses to support their development.
The Ministry for Labour, Employment, Vocational Training and Industrial Relations recognizes IRIS courses as certified professional developed courses.
IRIS, a training expert
For over 15 years, IRIS has made its expertise and analytic skills available to professionals through its training courses designed to provide an insight into contemporary geopolitical issues. Lectures are organized throughout the year to give the opportunity to develop analytic skills and discuss with experts.
The IRIS Sup’ school also offers degree programmes for professionals. There are five one-year programmes with courses over eight months, two days a week so that students can have another activity. There are also two distance education courses for students to work at their own pace in a structured learning environment.
IRIS offers several short-term, skills-development programmes as well.
