Julia Tasse is Director of Development at IRIS. She coordinates the activities of the institute’s various departments in order to structure new partnerships and collaborations.
She also leads the Ocean and Seabed Research Programme. Her work focuses on the interactions between the ocean, climate, and security. She is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Defence and Climate Observatory, a project funded by the French Ministry of the Armed Forces and conducted by IRIS.
Julia Tasse joined IRIS in 2019 after working for several years on maritime issues across a range of organisations, including the World Ocean Council, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the Agence française de développement.
She teaches at IRIS Sup’ and Sciences Po, and regularly lectures at Sorbonne University. She is a member of the editorial board of La Revue internationale et stratégique, for which she has directed or co-directed three issues: Géopolitique du basculement (2023), L’océan transparent ? Géopolitique des données maritimes (2025), and Guerre des systèmes : un abécédaire de la résilience (2026). She is co-author of Géopolitique de la mer (Eyrolles, 2022).
She holds a Master’s degree from Sciences Po in international environmental policy, a Master’s degree in environmental science from Pierre and Marie Curie University, and a Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, specialising in genetics and molecular biology.
