Russian hydrocarbons in light of the war in Ukraine

0 Reading time

Russia is a major supplier of gas and oil to the entire Eurasian region. Most of its customers are historically European, starting with Germany, the country most dependent on Russia for supplies in the region. Most of the gas and oil pipelines already built are destined for Eastern and Western Europe. Japan and China are also major importers. In the context of the war in Ukraine and Western sanctions against Russia, the trend is toward divestment from Europe, characterized by the abandonment of Nord Stream 2, in favor of Asia, where gas pipeline projects are continuing.
