
Christophe Ventura is a research director at IRIS. A specialist in Latin America, he frequently conducts missions in the region (Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Mexico, Central America, Venezuela, and Uruguay).
He also teaches at IRIS Sup’ on topics including Latin America, the multipolar world, social movements, and civil societies.
As part of his work, he writes and publishes analytical papers, reports, and expert assessments for ministries and institutions (Europe and Foreign Affairs, Armed Forces, French Development Agency).
As a journalist for Le Monde diplomatique, he has been following political, economic, social, and geopolitical developments in Latin America since the early 2000s.
Active in the international associative sphere, he has contributed to the conception and organisation of the World Social Forums since their inception in 2001 (Porto Alegre, Brazil). Through this work, Christophe Ventura has gained unique insights into Latin American civil society (social movements, trade unions, NGOs, political parties, academia, etc.) and the institutional actors of the region.
A graduate of the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS), Christophe Ventura studied the history of neoliberalism in the United States and Latin American independence movements in the 19th century.
He is the author of Géopolitique de l’Amérique latine (Éditions Eyrolles/IRIS, 2022) and co-author, with Didier Billion, of Désoccidentalisation. Repenser l’ordre du monde (Agone, 2023).
