The “Gender and Geopolitics” Observatory aims to serve as a platform for reflection and the promotion of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research on how gender—as a concept, a field of study, and a tool for analysing reality—can be used to understand geopolitics and inform decision-making on international issues.

Issues related to women’s rights, LGBTI rights, sexual and gender-based violence, the body, sexuality, gender relations, human rights, femininities, and masculinities across the globe are increasingly of concern to decision-makers and stakeholders alike.

Approaching geopolitics through the lens of gender also requires innovation in addressing more “traditional” topics on the international agenda, such as climate, education, development, health, sport, violence, the military, and labour.
