Restricted seminar organized by the French Defence and Climate Observatory, led by IRIS on behalf of the Directorate General for International Relations and Strategy (DGRIS) of the French Ministry for the Armed Forces. Held on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week and New York Climate Week in partnership with the Permanent Mission of France to the United Nations in New York.
The international community is facing an unprecedented convergence of crises. Climate change is accelerating while geopolitical tensions, renewed high-intensity conflicts and growing pressures on the multilateral system are reshaping the global security landscape. Against this backdrop, climate action remains one of the few areas capable of fostering dialogue, cooperation and collective solutions across political divides. As climate impacts increasingly affect peace, stability, development and humanitarian action, there is a growing need to strengthen the links between climate governance, conflict prevention and international security, and to keep climate issues at the highest level of the international political agenda.
The event will highlight how climate change is reshaping the work of the United Nations and regional bodies, while promoting multilateral solutions to shared global challenges. It will also showcase the work of the French Defence and Climate Observatory and DGRIS in advancing international understanding of the climate–peace–security nexus.
