The series “What Future European Defence and Technological Industrial Basis (EDTIB) Do We Want/Need?” explores the national perspectives on the future of the European Defence Technological and Industrial Base (EDTIB). The Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine has prompted a reassessment of defence policies across the European Union, leading Member States to boost defence spending and rethink their approach to industrial cooperation. While the need for a more integrated and resilient EDTIB is widely recognised, differences in national priorities and procurement strategies risk undermining cohesion at the EU level, potentially increasing fragmentation within the EDTIB. This series examines how Member States envision the future EDTIB, focusing on key themes such as technological innovation, defence modernisation, and the balance between national interests and European cooperation.
