Géraldine Pinauldt is an Associate Research Fellow at IRIS and a specialist in the Horn of Africa. She regularly contributes to IRIS Sup’, the IRIS school.

An independent international consultant, she holds a doctorate in geography and geopolitics from the French Institute of Geopolitics at the University of Paris 8. Since 2008, she has undertaken frequent research and consultancy missions (for international and regional institutions, NGOs, and private companies) in the Horn of Africa, primarily in Ethiopia, Somaliland, and Djibouti.

A Somali speaker, her research focuses on territorial constructions and cross-border exchanges in Somali territories. She is the author of several academic articles and reports on migration, trade, and regional geopolitics.

Since 2016, she has also served as an assessor judge appointed by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) at the French National Court of Asylum and teaches at various higher education institutes.
