Alexander Stonor is an Associate Research Fellow at IRIS, specialising in raw materials in Africa and the Middle East.

He is currently working within the business development department of Forage FTE, after having headed the African activities of Embellie Advisory. In this capacity, he has supported companies, governments and investors in the mining sector on issues relating to political risk, ESG and sustainability.

A former reporter specialising in the mining industry, he has carried out extensive field investigations in Guinea, Sierra Leone, Côte d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia and South Africa. He has written numerous reports and studies devoted to the assessment of geopolitical risks, investment in mega-infrastructure projects in Africa, and due diligence for Fortune Global 500 companies as well as for governments.

Alexander Stonor’s work focuses primarily on mining dynamics in Africa and on the links between natural resources, political stability and sustainability. He has taken a particular interest in the Lobito Corridor, on which he has on-the-ground expertise and to which he has dedicated a series of articles published by IRIS.
