Jean-Marc Gravellini

Jean-Marc Gravellini is an associate research fellow at IRIS, specialised in security and development issues in the Sahel. His other main areas of expertise are the definition and implementation of strategic positioning documents, both in terms of public policy development and investment programmes.

Jean-Marc Gravellini has worked for 35 years at the Agence française de développement (AFD) where he ended his career in 2015 as Executive Director of Operations. He was in charge of designing and implementing country and continental strategies (Africa, Asia, Mediterranean and Middle East, Latin America, French overseas departments and territories) and sector strategies (agriculture, energy, sustainable cities, transport, health, education, etc.), as well as cross-cutting strategies (climate, CSR, gender, etc.). From 2015 to 2017, he was Vice President Africa of the Compagnie Fruitière, a French private group. From January 2018 to February 2020, he headed the Coordination Unit of the Sahel Alliance. Since March 2020, he has created a consulting company for private companies, local authorities and public bodies.

In the field of management of complex organisations, he managed at the Agence française de développement a matrix organisation composed of 5 geographical directorates and 5 technical directorates. At the Sahel Alliance, he was in charge of the animation and coordination of 12 development partners (countries and institutions) who joined forces to make their financial aid to the Sahel more efficient and faster for the benefit of the populations affected by the security crisis.
